Missing Oranges

Apples and...garlic??!!
I went to my friend's place last week. She's also in to photography, and knows quite a bit. We were working on some still life photos, and she was passing on her wisdom and knowledge to me. I know the background isn't the best, but I liked it.

We used some apples and a clove of garlic as our subjects and she was showing me different lighting techniques - or rather what the photos would look like using different types of lighting. This photo was done with natural lighting coming from the window in the background window (it was a rather cloudy, grey day).

I'm going to have to try more still life photos as I enjoyed it! She showed me a light box (at least I think that's what she called it) that she had made. It was a box with the top and two sides cut out (enough of the box left to make a frame), and was covered in white material to allow lamp light to come in. She said she puts the item she is photographing in the box, adjusts the lighting, and then takes her shots. I just might have to try that too.

What are your favourite photos to take?

I think always a challenge to do still life indoors without flash, but natural light coming in from the window is great. Love to see more from you, I am afraid to do still life indoors ...

This has a really lovely warm, autumnal feel to it. Nice.
